Junior at Dawn House School:

Within the Junior class at Dawn House School we cater for a range of pupils from upper Key Stage 2 to lower Key Stage 3. This group is to support pupils who aren’t quite ready for our main school experience and benefit from having more consistency in relation to their teacher and classroom environment.

Our team of experienced staff work closely together to create a happy and nurturing environment where children settle quickly, are valued as individuals, but are also encouraged to develop the skills to become confident and successful members of the school community.

The Learning Environment:

Pupils within the Junior class have their own classroom in which they are based and a teacher who teaches them their core subjects. For the majority of their foundation subjects they’re taught by specialist subject teachers and access these lessons within the appropriate facility within the main school building. This helps to ensure that when they transition to one of our main Key Stage 3 teaching groups they already know a lot of the school staff and classrooms.

The Curriculum:

We work within the structure of the National Curriculum, providing experiences that reflect a whole range of learning styles and abilities. In the core subjects of Maths and English children are taught according to their needs and undertake national testing where appropriate. Teaching and Learning is backed up with regular monitoring and assessment, to ensure pupils move forward and reach their full potential.

We also offer a range of valuable learning experiences outside the classroom with regular trips to places of interest in the local area and further afield.

Primary Themes:

In the primary area of our school, we use engaging half-termly themes to bring learning to life. These themes spark curiosity and provide a central focus that connects all areas of the curriculum, offering pupils a meaningful and immersive learning experience. By exploring topics that captivate interest, we help pupils build essential skills while fostering a love for discovery across a broad curriculum.
