Principal’s message to families – 22 November 2024
National Novel Month!!
The annual Dawn House novel/story competition was launched in assembly on Monday. Children shared their favourite books and talked together about what makes a good story. Even at lunchtime they were still talking about their ideas! And they have They have 4 weeks to write their story, either individually or as a group ready for the prize giving in January. There is lots of chatter around school about it!!
We have also launched the reading for pleasure competition, that you may have seen on our Facebook page? There have been some very interesting entries so far from pupils and staff all reading in very unusual settings! Do take a look and join in- parents/carers included too if you’d like too!
Southwell Minster visit
At Southwell Minster, Primary 2 had the opportunity to dress up as a Bishop, learned about the church and saw and heard the organ in action! They learned about the Christmas story, made bracelets to represent the nativity and listened to an entertaining story from a ‘shepherd’. The children were brilliant, asked and answered lots of questions and the staff running it were really engaging, making the whole event very practical.
The Makaton Choir went singing at Ravenshead CofE school this week- some lovely singing and dancing shared between schools, and some very early Christmas songs which we’ll share nearer the time!
Communication and engagement- your input please!
Communication always features highly in any survey run in schools. Following last year’s survey we pulled together a communication working group, which came to several conclusions leading to new actions.
While there are things that staff and parents LOVE about how the school communicates and engages internally and externally, there are clearly still some areas causing concern and improvements that could be made.
With this in mind I’d like to reinstate a group that looks at this in more detail to get us closer to where we need it to be.
If you are interested in joining this group to analyse the surveys, share ideas, discuss issues and next steps and be part of the Dawn House improved communication of the future. Please let me know this week if you can. It’s unlikely we will meet until January, but it will be good to start with a plan.
Parents day and Christmas fayre
All plans are going well for this. You should have your appointments if you are seeing staff, which we do ask that you stick to and try not to over-run. Staff will be mindful of this too so don’t be offended if they need to ask you to move on- we know how much you like to talk about your children, as do we, but time is limited.
Thank you for your contributions to the fayre as requested last week- keep them coming!!!
Robin Hood Lottery
Weve had a £250 winner this month! Yeyy!!! We currently receive over £50 a month from the tickets that you all buy – so it really is a win win! Please ask us if you would like to buy some tickets and look out for the flyers on Parents day. Always a good gift for a friend!
50th Birthday News!
For our birthday we will be producing a ’50 stories for 50 years’ yearbook with the support of teams across Speech and Language UK. If you would be prepared to ‘share your DHS’ story with them, please let me know and someone will give you a call. We will also be asking this on Parents Day and at our reunion event so we should get a real flavour of the past 50 years– recent stories also very much appreciated!
