Between Monday 11th and Wednesday 13th November, some our Sixth Form students embarked on the annual residential trip to Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire. This trip was designed to support the development of key life skills, including independence, teamwork, and social interaction, all while working on a media-based project. The residential offered a unique opportunity for our students to grow personally and academically, with a series of activities aimed at boosting their confidence and fostering a sense of adventure.
The trip kicked off on Monday morning as students departed Dawn House School at 9:30 AM, arriving in Robin Hood’s Bay early afternoon. After settling into the Old School House and getting acquainted with the rules and procedures, the group set out on a walking tour of the village, familiarising themselves with the local area and the pub where they would enjoy their evening meal. The afternoon was dedicated to photography on the beach, capturing the stunning coastal scenery.
On Tuesday, the students set out on a photography excursion to Whitby, followed by a trip to Ravenscar for some fossil hunting. These activities encouraged collaboration and creativity, while also providing an enriching experience of the local geology and history. The day ended with a delicious fish and chips dinner in Scarborough, followed by more fun at the Old School House with another evening disco.
On the final day, Wednesday, the group enjoyed a relaxed breakfast before making their way back to Dawn House School, reflecting on the memories created over the two days. This residential experience not only helped develop vital skills such as teamwork and independence but also strengthened bonds between staff and students, and provided lasting memories for everyone involved.
The school continues to believe that offering these residential opportunities is an excellent way to enhance our students’ personal growth and enrich their education, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
