Dawn House School: Pupil Leadership Group – Spring 2
Pupil Feedback Drives Positive Change in School Life

Pupil Leadership Group – Spring 2:
At Dawn House School, we value our pupils’ opinions and use their feedback to help make our school better. We meet every half-term to go through a set agenda.
In Spring 2 we have focused upon:
- Impact of increasing pupil numbers
- Our Life Skills Curriculum
While students appreciate the growing community, many feel the corridors are becoming too crowded, particularly at lunchtime and during assemblies. Sixth-form students noted a shortage of chairs and requested additional sports equipment for their break and lunch periods.
To address these challenges, pupils suggested spreading new students across the school, creating extra quiet rooms, and even expanding the buildings upwards. They also proposed a one-way corridor system to ease congestion and a larger sensory room to accommodate more students.
When discussing Life Skills lessons, students were enthusiastic about topics such as gym, café work, and swimming. They enjoy the carousel approach of changing topics each half-term but would appreciate more advance notice of upcoming lessons. Suggestions for new topics included gardening, public transport skills, home management, and self-defence.
World Book Day was another key topic of discussion. Pupils enjoyed the activities and quizzes but felt older students would benefit from more age-appropriate activities and a restructured quiz to reduce crowding. The idea of hosting it as a house event was also raised.
Other suggestions included introducing a student prime minister role within the school, organizing a sixth-form mud race to raise funds for a new minibus, and diversifying Monday’s lunch menu beyond jacket potatoes.
The meeting highlighted the students’ commitment to making the school a better place, and their voices will play a key role in shaping future improvements.
Thank you to our pupils for their helpful feedback, and stay tuned for more updates!
