Stay Smart, Stay Safe: Protecting Yourself in the Digital World

Empowering Safe Online Practices

At Dawn House School, the Spring 1 half-term has been dedicated to raising awareness around internet safety in alignment with Safer Internet Day, held on Tuesday, 11th February. Throughout the half-term, pupils from across the school have been actively engaged in learning vital online safety practices.

Mr. Ellis, our Digital Lead, highlighted the importance of this initiative:

“In recognition of this year’s Safer Internet Day theme, students from across the school have spent this half-term learning about how to keep personal information safe and protect themselves from online scams. They’ve explored how to set strong passwords, store data securely, avoid over-sharing personal details, and recognize suspicious messages. Our students also learned about the potential harms posed by ‘Deep Fake’ images.”

As part of their learning, students participated in a variety of engaging activities. They created informative posters, took part in online safety quizzes, and presented their knowledge through a ‘Dawn House TV’ podcast focused on online protection. This podcast gave students the opportunity to write, present, and edit their own content, demonstrating their growing awareness of digital safety.

Throughout the term, pupils also discussed key internet safety topics in their tutor groups, sharing their top tips for staying safe online. These discussions have led to the creation of a pupil internet safety advice and guidance document, which will be prominently displayed around the school for all students to reference.
