Dawn House Pupils Shape the Future of SEND in National Research Project

Six pupils from Dawn House School recently took centre stage last week in a national research project exploring the future of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in England. Led by ISOS Partnership and funded by the Local Government Association, the initiative seeks to gather insights from young people, professionals, and policymakers to help shape a more inclusive and effective SEND system.

During the discussion, pupils shared their thoughts on the language used around special educational needs and inclusion, as well as the support available to help them prepare for adulthood. Their reflections provided invaluable perspectives that will contribute to a national report, influencing recommendations for improving SEND experiences and outcomes across the country.

“It was an incredibly powerful experience listening to our young people share such thoughtful and important opinions,” said Ben Norman, Deputy Principal at Dawn House School. “Their insights into their education journey will play a crucial role in shaping the future of SEND support.”

Below, you can find feedback from our pupils on the key issues discussed.
