On Monday, 24th February 2025, Dawn House School hosted its highly anticipated Pupil Participation Conference, an enriching event designed specifically for 6th form students. The conference provided a unique opportunity for pupils to engage in a range of workshops and activities aimed at equipping them with essential life and career skills.

Workshops and Activities:

Students participated in an exciting and diverse range of workshops, including:

– Careers, CV Writing, Interview Preparation, and Techniques – Practical guidance on crafting a standout CV and mastering interview skills.
– Supported Internship Information – Exploring opportunities for work experience and career development.
– Team Building – Engaging activities to enhance communication and collaboration.
– Health and Wellbeing – Strategies for maintaining mental and physical health.
– PSHE Topics – Covering key issues such as sexual health, vaping awareness, and online safety.
– Independent Living – Hands-on cooking sessions to develop essential life skills.

Inspiring Talks: Real Stories, Real Impact:
The day began with an inspiring keynote speech from Jacob Dunne, who shared his powerful journey of transformation. After serving fourteen months in prison for manslaughter in 2011, Jacob embraced Restorative Justice, developing a relationship with his victim’s parents. With their encouragement, he pursued education and achieved a first-class degree in criminology. His story was a profound reminder of the power of change, learning, and second chances.

The conference concluded with an insightful talk from former Dawn House student Andrew Shaw, who spoke about his experiences after leaving school. He shared his journey through college, university at Sheffield, and a career in software testing. Andrew emphasised the importance of work-life balance and encouraged students to persist in pursuing their passions.
