Engage Develop Aspire Communicate
Our vision: Working towards successful futures
What a windy old Friday. I hope the weekend ahead isn’t too disrupted for you all by the weather but do follow local guidance.
We started our week with an assembly by Miss Taylor celebrating diversity. We discussed the characteristics protected from discrimination by the Equality Act 2010:
- Age
- Disability
- Gender
- Marriage or civil partnership
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Race including colour
- Religion or belief
- Sex
We talked about the importance of having an inclusive school culture that values diversity and inclusion and also how we encourage open and respectful communication among students and staff.
This relates well to us all remembering to be kind and treating others how we like to be treated ourselves; something we need to remember wherever we are.
This is a useful topic to revisit and remind your children about.

You may have seen on our website that we had a visit from Mansfield Town football players this week- they were so very impressed by our pupils and their questions! They brought their own media team, so watch out for a Dawn House School mention!
Dawns Diner had their busiest Wednesday ever this week- we are so pleased to be supported by our local community- do pop in if you find yourself nearby on a Wednesday afternoon.
Lower school pupils also had an interesting morning with Severn Trent Water and their Experibus! Experiential learning at its best! Pupils and staff learnt about a range of jobs within the water industry and also about how important it is that we don’t waste water.

As we head into the last week in January, we are looking forward to our Arts themed House event on Tuesday. Our school community will join together in their house groups, bringing together children of all ages to take part in music making, ‘glow up and move’, Indian fine dining (ooh, that’ll be a favourite for me!), drama games, making landscapes and ruler painting! What a selection! Sounds like a great morning to me! Ask your children what house they are in- are they a Bear, a Lion, a Tiger, a Shark, a Bull or an Eagle?!
I can’t wait to join in with the activities – we’ll be sure to share lots of photos.
Have a good weekend,
Jenny
