Our vision: Working towards successful futures

BREAKING NEWS!!

‘Pupil Participation Conference- Successful Futures’
On Monday 24th February we have our Successful Futures Pupil Participation Conference for our Sixth Form students. For all other students this is an INSET day.

School will transform into a conference centre which gives our Sixth Formers the opportunity to learn lots of relevant information to support their successful futures. We are very excited to be able to offer this to other schools and colleges too. Once we have the programme for the day we will be delighted to share.

In assembly this week children learned about a whole variety of religions, in readiness for World Religion Day on Sunday. Ask them about what they learned – some students were certainly very knowledgeable and confident to share what they knew.

Safer Internet Day:
It’s ‘SAFER INTERNET DAY’ on Tuesday 11th February. Computing lessons are all focused this half-term on eSafety, but we ALL have a responsibility to help our students stay safe when using any kind of technology – whether Online or Offline. Please keep checking in with our website for lots of information and updates about what the children are learning about protecting themselves on-line.

I will share different aspects through my weekly message to you too.

Reporting Absence from school:
We all know pupils learn and develop better when they are in school, but we also know at times everyone needs to stay at home if they are too unwell at attend school. We are able to manage minor illnesses and times of anxiety with care and support from the staff in school. However, if you feel that your child will struggle to manage their day, then please keep them at home and let us know.

To report your child’s absence from school please:
Ring the main school office on 01623 795361
and
Complete the absence section on Weduc.
or
Send a text message to 07880 738815

Please give your name and child’s name, their class, and specific reasons for their absence.

Feel free to contact form tutors and the wellbeing team directly in addition to the above, they may be able to offer some help and support.

If your child has an appointment and needs to be picked up early from school, please also notify the school office.

Thank yous!

A huge thank you to all of you who sent us gifts over Christmas from our Amazon wish list – these are all due to be distributed across school in our briefing this afternoon.

Requests!

Do you have any contacts with local businesses?

Might they be interested in sponsoring an aspect of our January 2026 Skiing trip?

We are initially looking for sponsorship to purchase ‘Team DHS’ Ski jackets and hoodies for the pupils and staff going on the trip.

Please contact me if you or anyone you know might be excited to support us.

Speech and Language UK are planning a campaign focused on how current behaviour approaches in mainstream schools can be harmful to children with speech and language challenges. We’re aiming to raise public awareness and push for changes in the government’s behaviour management guidance for schools, pushing for better support for these children.

We’re looking for parents and carers who might be willing to share theirs and their children’s experiences as case studies for the campaign by having a conversation with one of the team. We realise that your past experiences in the mainstream school system might not have been solely about the behaviour approach – it may have been more about a lack of understanding of your child’s needs by teachers and staff, which can also lead to unfair behaviour management practices.

If you would be willing to share your story, please contact me by email over the next week. [email protected]

Many thanks, and have a great weekend,
Jenny
